Margaret Coles writes: 'The talk I offer is very much rooted in Julian as a reliable witness, with the skills and working practices of an ethical journalist. As an ethical journalist myself, I recognise her approach to the event she is reporting. She has the journalistic instincts and dogged persistence to examine and re-examine everything that has been revealed to her, resisting any temptation to limit herself to an easy, convenient conclusion, but to keep working on the material, seeking out the truth and inner meaning, for as long as it takes. She was chosen, I believe, partly because of these characteristics, the characteristics of a first-rate reporter required for a very special assignment. She was what a former head of the ICRC described to me as a "truth dentist - a reporter who will drill and drill until she gets to the truth"; a reporter who had the temerity to pipe up at a press conference with God, "Sorry, would you please clarify that? I'm not sure I see how you reached that conclusion."'
At the Cathedral Fellowship members of the congregation meet old friends and make new ones. If you are new to the Congregation, it’s an excellent opportunity to meet new people and to begin to feel at home. We meet once a month for a talk or presentation on a wide range of topics, some of which are related to the Cathedral and Christian belief and practice and others are of more general interest. All our presenters are informal and approachable. There are no tickets and no membership, though we ask for a donation to cover expenses.
We generally meet either in George Bell House, 4 Canon Lane or in Vicars’ Hall (do check the venue) with the talk followed by questions and discussion and the all-important cup of tea. We start at 2.00pm and the gathering lasts about 75 minutes.
