Cathedral Friends | Watts Gallery and Chapel Coach Trip

Join Chichester Cathedral Friends on Tuesday 21st May 2024 on a trip to the Watts Gallery and magnificent Chapel in the village of Compton, near Guildford

During the visit you will have the opportunity to see the Arts and Crafts Chapel designed by Mary Watts in dramatic stucco and terracotta, as well as the Gallery dedicated to the work of George Frederic Watts (1817-1904).

Amongst the works on display from this artist’s successful 70-year career are large allegorical paintings, symbolist works, social realist scenes, portraits and sculptures, including a plaster cast of Physical Energy, his monumental bronze sculpture in Hyde Park, London.

Enjoy coffee and biscuits on arrival and a sandwich lunch in the Old Kiln private dining room (meat, fish and vegetarian options available). After lunch you will have free time to explore the artists’ historic home and studio Limnerslease, discover the story of George and Mary and the Compton Pottery, purchase artisan crafts in the shop and contemporary gallery, or visit an exhibition of De Morgan pottery. You may also explore the gardens and extensive woodlands. There is much to see at the Watts Chapel and Gallery, and this day out is bound to inspire.

Tickets for the day cost £65 including coach travel, coffee, entrance fees, a guided tour and a sandwich lunch. The group size is limited so please book early to avoid disappointment. The coach will depart from outside Chichester Cathedral on West Street at 9.00am, departing Watts Gallery at 3.30pm, arriving back at the Cathedral at around 4.30pm. Please let us know of any food intolerances when booking.
